Operation Nehemiah Missions International (ONMI) is on an exciting mission to transform South Sudan by empowering financial independence and rebuilding vibrant communities in a region deeply affected by war and displacement. Founded on July 31, 1993, by the inspiring William Levi, who was born and raised in war-torn Sudan, he came to America in 1988 in search of religious freedom, inspired by the American ideals of faith, family, and freedom. He embraced the American dream, working full-time and attending two colleges in Newark, NJ full-time, graduating with an Associate Degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering in 1992. In 1993, he felt a divine calling to leave his engineering career and become a voice for the voiceless believers in his native Sudan, which was engulfed in a war of Islamic persecution against Christians in South Sudan. This calling led to the creation of ONMI, which emerged as a powerful voice in America, advocating for the persecuted church during Sudan-South Sudan's civil war. The organization is dedicated to improving conditions for returnees through both spiritual and physical rebuilding, offering basic health care, clean water, and primary health education.

It focuses on long-term capacity building by equipping hospitals, training personnel, and supporting vocational education, such as the Nehemiah Polytechnic Institute. ONMI champions community development through agricultural initiatives, micro-businesses, and church planting, all aimed at achieving self-reliance and community engagement. With an impressive 98% of its staff being South Sudanese nationals, ONMI fosters local leadership to establish a "City on a Hill" in South Sudan, promoting dignity through meaningful work and education.
