Donate to Bee Keeping
Our goals for 2007 - 2010
Honey is a precious commodity in South Sudan. Its production enables bee keepers to earn a stable income through a viable trade. In the picture at left , you can see how people traditionally extract honey from bee colonies located within the trunks of large trees. This is a slow and often unpredictable process. However, with the right tools, bee keeping can be turned into a commercial business to create jobs and boost local economy.
Operation Nehemiah has created a bee keeping program to help train interested persons in the art of bee keeping and honey harvesting. We provide hives suitable to the climate, bee keeping suits, and a special tool designed to separate the honey from the comb. Our interns are then responsible for hive development and all aspects of harvesting and marketing. This is an exciting opportunity to place development and sustainability in the hands of Sudanese refugees returning to their homeland. Your gift to this program will help ensure its continued success and growth.
