Agricultural Food production
Beth Israel - Farm work which began in the month of April 2009 to address the Economic breakdown, food insecurity level, Revived and restore the Christian family unit of farming system and create a seed bank for the County has a big impact on the food security level of the County. This report aims at giving the Donor the actual agric Production trend and how its being used to benefit the Widows and orphans in the community and church at Beth Israel Messianic Congregation.
The crops planted in the year 2009 are, Simsim, Cassava, Onions, cabbages, Tomatoes, sorghum, mangos, Oranges and Egg plants.
Simsim which was planted 8 acres did not give us very good yields and as a result we have realized 170kilograms as harvest and of which the 70kilograms where given to 11 widows in the Messianic congregation of Borongole and Kerepi Dereto. And the remaining 100kilogram of the simsism 40kilogram will be retained as seed for this years production while the 60kilogram will be sold a kilogram is at 3,000x 60kg = 180,000/=Ugandan shillings of which money would be able to cover the labor cost of opening 3 more acres.
Sorghum was planted 9 acres and have given us a yield 700kilograms of which 100kilograms from the total yield realized was given to the 11 widows in the messianic congregation of Borongole and Dereto. And the remaining 600kgs , 100kg is retained as seeds for the next planting or production while the 500kgs will be sold a kilogram is at 800 X 500KGS =400,000/= Ugandan shillings
Cassava the 15 acres of cassava is not yet ready for harvesting but in the month of July - August it can be harvested and each acre is estimated to generate 6 million Ugandan shillings and when multiplied with the 15 acres we shall realized approximately 90 million Uganda shillings. While the stalks for further plantation can not be bought this season because the 15 acres already is a very big seed bank for more fields/acres that we are intending to plant this year.
Mangos they are planted two acres and 180 trees which survived 174 trees that are healthy and doing well and in a period of 18 months the first fruit will be realized, the mangos are of different varieties, like Boribo, Valencia, Kent, while for Citrus also they were planted 180 and all have survived.(Oranges of different varieties) like the American Tangerine, sweet Mediterranean, and others are equally expected to produce their first fruit in 18 months time.
Vegetables like onions, cabbages and Egg plants have done so well and most of it has been used as an alternative source for the workers and the women in the messianic congregation that helped with weeding and harvesting in the fields, we did not made use of it for monetary purposes and this year we have seen how good there yield are we will focus more on producing it for market.
AKO BETH ISREAL FARM 2010 WORK PLAN
